Team Rider.. Christian Simmons Age 27 Plymouth

We asked Christian a Few questions about his surfing and lifestyle,
here's his response:

How old are you?
27
Where were you born?
Ascot, Berkshire.
Where do you live now?
Plymouth at the moment, but I call St. Ives home.
What do you do for money?
I've just finished uni, and am now just a few formalities away from being a qualified Architect. Its taken me 6 years so far, so I hope its worth it!
What's your favourite thing about surfing?
Getting barrelled, the travelling, the people you meet, everything! There's nothing I like more than getting out after a good session somewhere hot, with my beautfiul
girlfriend Yenta on the beach waiting for me...paradise!
Have you done much travelling?
I've surfed in Oz, Indo, Costa Rica, France, the Canaries, Florida, and Trinidad and Tobago (where I lived for 4 years...) Indo's second to none, just an amazing place, sick waves, I love it!
When did you live in Trinidad and Tobago, what was it like?
I moved there in 1994 when I was 14 with my mum and sister. It was great, so much fun, stinkin hot all year and fun surf, not epic, but surfing reefs and points and different beaches at that age was great! Then stupidly I came back to blighty for uni, I could've gone to the US probably, but just never thought about it seriously enough I guess.
Who inspires you?
Kelly Slater, the greatest surfer (and possibly sportsman!) ever! And so many other people who do great things in life...
like the late Martin Luther King...
What are your dislikes?
Racism and scumbags in general! You know, the type that walk around like they own the joint, even though they've never contributed a penny of tax yet!
Welcome to Great Britain in the 21st Century!
What's your favourite pre-surf amp music?
Probably Bloc Party. I generally like whatever's in my favourite surf movie at the time...its Campaign 2 at the moment...
If you could be anywhere right now, where would you be?
In a barrel at Periscopes, in Indo.
Whats your Favourite move in surfing?
Barrels, a nice big fins-out snap, and I wanna work on my airs more...
What's your greatest achievement to date?
Probably cleaning up at the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire Counties swimming champs when I was about 12, or getting bronze at the Southern Counties the next year. Its been downhill since then!
What about contests?
Getting better, I got = 7th at the Studnet Nationals last year, and = 5th this year, just missing the final. Everyone I know was sure I made that final as I had a really good semi, but hey, thats judging for you.
I'm looking to really step up to the BPSA contests etc this year, but the level is so high there, with all the South Africans and Aussies over here nowadays! It all helps us to raise our game though, so thats good..
Future Goals?
Well, I might have another crack at the Student Nationals because I need to register my practical experience with a uni, so I'd love to win that. Otherwise, I just wanna travel as much as possible. Hopefully do ok in some more contests, get more photos in mags, and my girlfriend and
I plan to be living in Oz in the next 2 years or so.
Thats my real life goal, to be living the good life over there! I can't wait!
