Christian
Simmons Heads out to Indo
Team
Rider Christian Simmons is heading out to Indonesia on his annual
surf trip this month and writes:-
Hi guys,
We
go to Indo on 24th March for 3 weeks. Its just coming into the
prime
April - Oct season for wind and waves, with offshore winds most
days 'til
lunchtime (and sometimes all day), and big southern hemi winter
swells
travelling up from Antarctica past West Oz to Indo. April's
great 'cause
its not as crowded as July-August, and its you miss a bit of
the cold
here! Since the swells have travelled so far, they're so clean
and
organised when they hit indo, part of the reason why its so
perfect. The
other reason is the reefs! You always get some good cuts, unless
you're
not going hard enough, but it just adds to the excitement. As
long as I
don't hit my head or get held down for too long I don't mind
hitting the
reef too much. No pain no gain i guess!
Right
now our plans are to go to Lakey Peak in Sumbawa for a week
or so,
spend a week or in Bali (probably with a few drunken nights
in Kuta!), and
the rest is open. I'm talking to a mate about Sumatra at the
moment but
we'll see. Last year we didn't go to Lakey's, where I'd been
on all 3 of
the previous indo trips, and I definitely missed it, so I'm
really excited
about it this year. The waves over there are so good, and its
a pretty
cool vibe, I love it!
Here
are a few shots from last year's trip, taken at Uluwatu in Bali,
and
I'm hoping to get a load more this year. I also made a short
video clip of
the trip last year, which I really want to improve on this time...so
watch
this space!
....
